Do Eating Habits Affect Recovery?Eating Disorder TherapyAt Hotel California By the Sea, we strongly believe that in order for our clients to achieve long-term recovery, their underlying issues must be discovered and treated at their core. It is almost always one’s underlying pain, and trauma that causes their disordered eating behaviors and/or drug and alcohol addiction. To set our clients up for the highest chances of success in their recovery, we offer our clients a variety of state-of-the-art and evidence-based addiction and eating disorder treatment therapies including: individual therapy, group therapy, nutritional counseling and management, dietary psychoeducation, psychiatric evaluation and pharmacology therapy, life skills, art therapy, harp therapy, equine therapy, PTSD and specialized trauma therapy – usually through EMDR, 12-step groups, family program and follow-up, supported meals, restaurant and grocery shopping outings, and expressive therapy and meditative yoga.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)– The goal of CBT is to modify maladaptive thoughts, feelings and behaviors that may be unhealthy or influencing negative states of mind. This is an evidenced based treatment that has been shown to be effective in the treatment of depression, anxiety and other mental health concerns.


Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT)– This evidenced based treatment focuses on 4 modules during treatment: emotion regulation, distress tolerance, problem solving and mindfulness. There is a manual that accompanies this treatment often involving various exercises and reading. DBT can be effective in the treatment of dual diagnosis such as mood disorders, trauma, and also offers practical skills for addiction recovery.


Mindfulness Meditation- Mindfulness Meditation is an evidence-based intervention used to reduce the effects of stress resulting in a wide range of benefits. It has been shown to increase feelings of self-compassion and enhance your sense of purpose and meaning. It can also help in practical ways to manage cravings and lessen the impact of negative emotional states.


Yoga– Gentle physical yoga practice will bring steadiness to the mind and help to detoxify the body. Yoga can help with stress reduction and enhance personal awareness and relaxation.

Nutritional Counseling- Nutrition is an important part of a healthy lifestyle. Nutritional counseling is available to assess your current dietary needs and to assist you with establishing a healthy nutritional regimen that supports your recovery process.

Along with an array of customizable eating disorder group therapy offerings, our clients will receive up to one individual therapy sessions per week with a masters or PhD level therapist or psychiatrist, weekly individual case management sessions and weekly sessions with our licensed and registered dietitian.
