What is MHN?
MHN is a behavioral health services subsidiary of Health Net’s insurance company. MHN is the portion of Health Net that helps members who are looking for behavioral health treatment of any kind, and deals directly with various in-network and out-of-network mental health treatment providers, such as Hotel California by the Sea. If someone wants an MHN plan, they can purchase one independently or with a Health Net medical plan.
“MHN is one of the most experienced and capable providers of managed behavioral health care and Employee Assistance Programs (EAPs) in the United States. We have over 40 years of healthcare experience and serve over 800 organizations, including Fortune 500 companies, government agencies, health plans and Taft-Hartley Trust Funds…Our provider network offers choice, quality care and convenience worldwide. We work with over 63,000 credentialed practitioners and 1,500 hospitals and care facilities.” – MHN
Case managers at MHN can help their members find the perfect treatment center that is financially-friendly and participates with their insurance provider. MHN also offers telehealth services and telehealth options to their clients, so that people who need mental health and addiction treatment can seek help for their disorder while social distancing through virtual visits during COVID-19.
Does MHN Cover Addiction Treatment?
MHN behavioral health plans cover medically necessary services in the mental health and substance use disorder treatment realm. Some services covered through MHN include:
- Individual sessions with therapists, psychiatrists, or psychologists.
- Treatment for addiction and mental illnesses in settings that meet both your medical and psychological needs. Care in these facilities may range in intensity and breadth, but serve to solve a common issue: a mental illness that has become debilitating and needs intervention. Treatment for addiction and mental illnesses in clinical settings may include inpatient care, outpatient care, or both.
- Treatment follow-up and aftercare.
MHN does not, however, provide prescription drug benefits. In order for these services to be covered, a member must consult their medical plan’s website. If you want specific details such as the following, be sure to contact your MHN care manager by dialling the phone number on the back of your insurance card:
- Who is eligible for plan benefits (usually this includes members and their dependents).
- What services are covered when you use an MHN network provider.
- Your out-of-pocket costs before, after, or during attending treatment for substance abuse issues or mental illness.
- Which health care services require preauthorization.
- What services are covered when you use a provider who’s not in our network (some plans only cover in-network services).
- Benefit exclusions and limitations.
“Health Net’s behavioral health services subsidiary, MHN, provides behavioral health, substance abuse and employee assistance programs (EAPs) to approximately 7.3 million individuals in various states, including the company’s own health plan members.”
