Outpatient Program Overview

- Typically 1-2 times a week or less dependent on the treatment team’s recommendation

The outpatient addiction treatment program is for people that have a good grasp on their recovery. This program is designed for people in recovery who have demonstrated consistent use of healthy coping skills and who have implemented prior therapeutic methods to minimize the risk of relapse.
The outpatient addiction treatment program is a piece of the continuing care programs offered at HCBTS Missouri that offers continued support and an alumni community beyond active treatment. This external support system and accountability through relationships is the final piece that makes our overall outpatient program one of the most effective recovery programs in the country.
Therapies Offered in Outpatient Addiction Treatment
HCBTS Missouri offers the most effective therapies currently implemented in recovery. Our renowned outpatient addiction treatment program has gained acclaim for its practical and inquisitive approach to each client’s success. We offer over a dozen therapy techniques that are used in combination to address recovery as an individual journey rather than a formula.
Dialectical Behavior Therapy
Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) is a form of psychotherapy that implements new skills for patients to utilize in resolving interpersonal conflicts. Behavioral health providers typically administer this therapy to patients that struggle with mood disorders and other mental health conditions that may benefit from mindfulness practices and tangible coping tools.
This therapy is effective in helping clients understand their underlying emotions and teaching practical ways to express them in a healthy way. DBT focuses on providing a patient with a safe space to process their emotions and fosters an environment that promotes self-acceptance.
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is one of the oldest and most studied forms of therapy offered in addiction treatment across the country. CBT focuses on an individual’s thought-process and aims to recognize recurring thought patterns. Once a patient is familiarized with unhealthy patterns within the thought process, this therapy then focuses on teaching and implementing techniques that can change that thought process.
This therapy is very effective in retraining a client’s relationship with substance abuse. Trauma often underlies addiction. Trauma actually rewires the brain and can cause a multitude of mental health issues including severe depression and anxiety as well as a higher likelihood of substance abuse.
By addressing the underlying cause of addiction, this therapy helps to bring an individual’s substance abuse to the forefront in an understandable and safe light.
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing Therapy
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy is a form of psychotherapy founded in the late 1980’s. This therapy has been gaining popularity in the recovery community for its tangible and effective method of addressing trauma. At Hotel California by the Sea, we offer clients the option to partake in EMDR sessions if they have been through traumatic events or suffer from PTSD. At HCBTS, we have found that EMDR can be extremely effective in treating those who have suffered traumatic experiences, as well as helping clients manage their PTSD symptoms.
EMDR therapy focuses on the emotions and fears that surround a traumatic event, rather than the traumatic event itself. By incorporating certain eye movement techniques and other progressive techniques, a trained clinician helps a client process their trauma and carve new neural pathways in their brain.
This nontraditional form of therapy can help clients restructure traumatic memories they once experienced. Considering trauma is highly linked with addiction, treating trauma in tandem with substance abuse issues at our outpatient treatment center in Missouri state helps clients from across the country overcome their substance abuse issues for good.
Art and Music Therapy
The art and music therapies at Hotel California by the Sea, St. Louis, help to round out our addiction program and make it fun, experimental, and unique. These forms of therapy prove to be especially effective for people that do not find talk therapy helpful in their healing process. Finding other ways to express yourself in sobriety can make it easier to cope with uncomfortable emotions and deal with the inevitable ups and downs of life. This therapy fosters an environment of expression and creative processing that can help a client look at their addiction and underlying trauma in a different way.
Whether you opt for one of Hotel California’s PHP or IOP programs, you will know you made the right choice. Your recovery outpatient addiction treatment team will help you in making these decisions and will see you through to the next phase of your addiction recovery plan.
Incorporating Holistic Values
