Hotel California by the Sea’s caring admissions specialists and specialized behavioral health clinicians can help you figure out what is right for you.
Oftentimes it is the residential rehab centers that are most popular since they are usually covered under the same insurance benefit and allow people to get the highest level of intervention in the shortest amount of time. However, not every individual may require the medication-assisted treatment or 24/7 support. On other occasions, people do not have the flexibility with their work schedule, but still want help. This is where outpatient treatment programs can be very helpful.
Hotel California By the Sea’s outpatient programs in Cincinnati, Ohio allows for flexible scheduling and more freedom, while still providing intensive therapeutic services for long-term recovery. Here you will find more information on outpatient programs, the benefits, and levels of care available.
At Hotel California By the Sea, Cincinnati, we offer outpatient treatment for chemical dependency and co-occurring mental health disorders. We separate these services into three levels of care:
- Partial Hospitalization Treatment (PHP)
- Intensive Outpatient Treatment (IOP)
- Outpatient Treatment (OP)
A client’s level of care is determined through co-collaboration with their treatment team. Through a thorough psychological evaluation and ongoing follow-ups, clients can rest assured they are receiving appropriate attention and supervision from addiction specialists throughout their outpatient programming. Attendance at these programs can range anywhere from 1 to 5 days per week and the length of the program depends on the treatment progress of each individual.
Levels of Care
Partial Hospitalization (PHP)
PHP is the most intensive level of day treatment programs (around 7 hours per day). This level can be for those just entering outpatient treatment for their first time or for others who are transitioning from higher levels of care. Individuals attend this level of care for about 10-14 days, depending on clinical necessity. In this phase, individuals receive individual psychotherapy, individual case management/drug and alcohol counseling sessions, psychiatric visits, medication management, and group therapy. S0metimes clients attend PHP while living in a sober living environment but could also go home to a safe home environment conducive to the recovery process.
Intensive Outpatient (IOP)
IOP is around 3 hours per day and suited for individuals typically transitioning from PHP or who can be treated at a lower level of care without risking relapse. Oftentimes these individuals have obtained some length of sobriety and have demonstrated the ability to apply coping skills. In this level of care, clients are typically treated for 15-30 sessions, but they can be spread out anywhere from 2-6 months. Depending on clinical evaluation and co-collaboration with the client, these sessions usually start out at 5 days a week and are titrated down to 3 days a week or less for a smooth transition into daily life.
IOP offers individual therapy, psychiatry visits, and group therapy for continuing care. In this phase of care, a great deal of treatment planning is identifying outside support systems and a lifestyle that is conducive to long-term recovery. In this phase, we prepare clients for more self-sufficiency so that they may have the opportunity to apply the coping skills they have been learning in therapy in a non-structured setting. By slowly decreasing the level of supervision, high risk behaviors can be mitigated, and a strong relapse prevention plan is formed to identify outside triggers and cravings.
Outpatient is the lowest level of care intended for individuals who have demonstrated a higher level of insight into their recovery process, evidence of applied coping skills, and have a lower risk for relapse. Individuals remain in this phase of recovery for any length of time depending on medical necessity as insurance authorization is typically not required for this level of care. Sessions are usually 1-2 days per week or even less depending on the recommendation from the treatment team and needs of the individual. In Outpatient, clients continue to see the same therapist, counselor, and psychiatrist while remaining connected with the alumni or graduate community of the treatment program.
Whether you opt for one of Hotel California’s PHP or IOP programs, you will know you made the right choice. Your recovery treatment team will help you in making these decisions and will see you through to the next phase of your addiction recovery plan.
Benefits of Outpatient Treatment
Although outpatient treatment is less intensive than other levels of care, it offers many benefits and opportunities that residential drug rehabs cannot provide. More freedom and overall integration of therapeutic modalities into daily life allow for different opportunities for growth.
Oftentimes individuals are struggling with drug addiction or are in need of alcoholism treatment but are unable to attend a 24-hour treatment facility due to external circumstances. Whether it be work or school schedule, family responsibilities, or finances, outpatient services offer a more flexible approach to treatment. At HCBTS in Cincinnati, OH we will work with you to the best of our abilities to provide you with accessible care.
Another top priority in outpatient treatment is providing freedom for clients to live a normal life so that they may apply the coping skills they have learned. At the same time, those in early sobriety may require extra support and guidance while transitioning back into their daily lives. By giving clients the opportunity to exercise the skills they have learned in therapy in their ordinary days, individuals become empowered and gain trust in their ability to live a sober lifestyle. Developing a lifestyle in recovery while continuing the healing process allows for clients to attract healthy environments, influences, and supports throughout the process. No person should have to rebuild their life alone and outpatient helps you with just that!
Case management sessions are not only meant to treat drug and alcohol addiction, but also address the external consequences that come from addiction and mental health conditions. Case managers are available to help mitigate the consequences of legal issues, unemployment, and more. By coordinating with family, probation officers, employers, and more, clients have their own personal advocate to change their life.
Less Intensive (But Sometimes Longer) Stay
Although outpatient therapy is a lower level of care than detox or residential treatment, it offers support over a longer length of time. While residential treatment is typically 30 days, outpatient services can range anywhere from 2 months up to a year, depending on clinical necessity and the needs of each individual. Residential treatment may be a great intensive introduction to recovery for many people, but outpatient treatment offers a full continuum of care that has proven to be a determining factor in relapse prevention.
What Happens After Outpatient Treatment?
When clients are ready to leave outpatient treatment and step down to lower levels of care such as individual therapy or support groups, discharge coordinators can help clients locate appropriate providers and discuss their next steps. Before we make any movements to lower levels of care, we make sure clients have a robust support network of loved ones and resources outside of HCBTS’s outpatient program. We understand that, before any client leaves treatment, they need help creating a structured lifestyle where they can actively employ their coping skills in the face of triggers and cravings.
